Holiday Sparkle is in the Air

Just when we thought it was over … When we finally ate the last of the leftover turkey and scrubbed the final drop of Pinot Noir out of the carpet, it’s time to plan our holiday parties.

From the first of December through New Year's Day, holiday sparkle is in the air, with family get-togethers, corporate events and small dinner parties.

This is when the cocktail party comes into play. Like the “little black dress,” the cocktail party can be dressed up and glitzy or dressed down and casual. Either way, this is always a fun and easy way to entertain, if you keep it simple with a few of these tips.

First and foremost, keep the menu simple. Select food that is easy to eat standing up, such as crab balls, brie and fig bites and mini tomato mozzarella skewers. Be sure to include some foods that don’t require heating, so you’re not in the kitchen the entire time. Pre-mix a few popular cocktails so your guests can pour their own.

Don’t put all your food out at once. Add an element of surprise by staging your party. Greet your guests with a signature cocktail. Set out a few stationary hors d’oeuvres, such as crudité and dips, shrimp cocktail or a mezze platter, in different areas of your entertainment space.

After about an hour, set out a cocktail carving, such as sliced tenderloin with horseradish sauce on baguette slices, or a sushi platter complete with chopsticks and a basket of fortune cookies on the side. Finally, serve dessert and coffee about an hour before you want your party to end.

Last, but not least, call our catering department for more innovative entertaining ideas to add sparkle to your holiday party.
