Radio Kitchen is the creation of "Cellar Notes" co-host
Al Spoler and Chef Jerry
Pellegrino of Federal Hill's Corks Restaurant. In Chef
Pellegrino, Spoler found the perfect blend of informal affability
and professional knowledge that makes for a great host. "I
take a very intellectual approach to cooking," Pellegrino says,
"and I like to teach a well-organized approach. Most importantly
though, it's fun. The more you know about cooking, the more relaxed
you're going to be and the more fun you'll have."
Radio Kitchen works with four basic themes that rotate over time.
"We do shows inspired by ingredients, we talk about techniques,
we look at equipment and how it can help you, and we do a lot of
recipe ideas as well," says Pellegrino.
While the two co-hosts bring a common passion and good humor to
the program, they each have their role to play. "I'm sort of
the well-informed home cook who needs ideas, and knows who to ask,"
Spoler says. "Jerry is the friendly neighborhood chef who always
has the time to teach me something. The fact that these are our
real-life roles helps keep the show honest. We're just playing ourselves."
Radio Kitchen can be heard on Tuesdays at 8:33am
Radio Kitchen is underwritten by Eddie's of Roland Park.
