Since our founding over 60 years ago, Eddie’s of Roland Park has always recognized that our continued success as a business is directly linked to the success of our surrounding community. Because of this, we have always given generously to local charities and causes.

As you can imagine, we receive numerous requests for charitable contributions from the many organizations that are working so hard to improve our community. While we would love to be able to assist every worthy cause, we can only participate to the extent that our budget allows. For the current year, Eddie’s of Roland Park has committed our donations to:

  • The House of Ruth, where our funds can help victims of domestic abuse and their families.
  • The Kimmel Cancer Research Center at Johns Hopkins, where we commit funds to support ongoing research into the causes and treatments of Cancer.
  • Area schools, where we sponsor educational and cultural events – typically one event per school per year (see guidelines below).

Eddie’s prides ourselves on our role in the community, and we are always happy to contribute or co-operate to the extent that our resources allow. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
Nancy Cohen and Eddie’s of Roland Park

Guidelines for Submitting Requests:

  • Requests for contributions should be written on the organization's letterhead, including date of the event, purpose, what you are requesting, a copy of your 501(c)3 status, name, address and daytime telephone number for your contact person.
  • As a matter of policy, Eddie’s does not support third-party charities (for example, schools raising funds for other groups or causes). We prefer to donate directly to the beneficiary organization.
  • We can not give directly to individuals or families in need.
  • Requests from schools should be submitted by the school’s business or administrative office. We can’t accept requests from individual parents, students, or school organizations (drama clubs, sports teams, etc.).
  • While we're pleased to contribute whenever and wherever we can, remember that we're on a budget just like everyone else! Every request is carefully reviewed, but please keep in mind that the programs listed above constitute the vast majority of our charitable giving budget for the current year.
  • Our committee meets once every two weeks, and we have an overwhelming number of requests to consider. If you have a request, please give us at least 60 days warning, plan ahead, and be patient.

If your request fits within our guidelines, you may submit it to:

shottower

Built from one million bricks and standing 234 feet tall, Baltimore's shot tower (officially the "Phoenix Shot tower") was at one time the tallest structure in the United States. It's cornerstone was laid by Charles Carrol, Maryland's signatory on the Declaration of Independence. Threatened with demolition in the 1920's (it might have become a gas station), public outcry led to it's preservation as a national landmark.

In 1880, local resident Jim Horney needed some cash. As the story goes, Horney bet a friend that he could jump off the top of the Tower, and live to collect a whopping five dollar wager. The friend, obviously not a very good one, slapped cash on the table. Carrying the sun umbrella from his horse cart, Horney lept heroically... and fell like a sack of rocks. He landed, shaken, but amazingly alive, on the roof of an Exeter Street house, nearly a block away.

While our history may not be quite as colorful, Eddie's of Roland Park is proud of our role in the community. From our work with local charities to promoting local talents through events, hosting community gatherings, providing jobs and caring about our neighbors, we continue our tradition of serving our city proudly.
