Position Summary

Partner with ownership to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for two gourmet grocery stores in Baltimore. The Operations Director will manage two Store Managers and monitor the performance of their salaried department managers. Core focus areas include Strategic Planning, Financial Performance, Sales & Merchandising, Process Improvement, Employee Relations, and Problem Resolution.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Financial Performance

  • Recommend and implement strategic initiatives to improve store operations, sales, and profitability.
  • Analyze market trends, forecast performance, and lead the budgeting process and implementation.
  • Establish operational standards for cost control, quality, shrink, and safety.
  • Deliver results in all key areas, including safety, quality, service, and cost management.


Sales & Merchandising

  • Develop and execute creative merchandising strategies to drive business growth.
  • Ensure consistent, high-level customer experiences across both stores.
  • Collaborate with company leadership to enhance policies, practices, and performance.


Process Improvement & Operations

  • Identify and implement initiatives to improve store processes, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor the performance of department managers and provide coaching as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize store operations.


Employee Relations & Leadership

  • Communicate expectations, key responsibilities, and best practices to Store Managers and staff.
  • Foster a positive work environment with open and healthy communication.
  • Inspire, challenge, and develop direct reports and store teams to achieve business results.
  • Partner with leadership on staffing, training, development, succession planning, and compliance.


Problem Resolution & Compliance

  • Resolve operational, customer service, and employee-related issues effectively and professionally.
  • Ensure adherence to legal, safety, and company policies.
  • Serve as a resource to Store Managers for problem-solving and decision-making.

Carries out other duties as assigned to support company goals and store operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 10–15 years progressive multi-unit grocery retail management experience, preferably in high-end merchandise.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including P&L management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proven track record in merchandising and business development.
  • Progressive leadership experience, ability to inspire and develop teams.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience managing diverse teams and collaborating across all organizational levels.
  • Results-oriented with outstanding customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and general computer applications.

Salary: 100-150k

Compensation is based on years of relevant experience, demonstrated customer service ability, and overall ability to multitask.
