ONE MORE BITE
Layers of Love
Do you remember the "layered look" of the '70's? That was when one would wear three shirts at one time and call it a "fashion statement." That didn't last long, thankfully, but the layers we love to remember are the layers of flavor that make what we know today as lasagna. Flat rectangular noodles, layered with cheeses, meats, vegetables and sauce, make up this beloved baked creation.
The word lasagna originated centuries ago in Greece, with the Greek word "lasana" meaning "cooking pot." The Italians used this word to describe the lasagna dish that we are familiar with today. Finally, as Italians immigrated to America, the dish became increasingly popular.
At Eddie's, our lasagna dishes remain popular. Our kitchens continue to create variations on the theme, using quality ingredients to result in layers and layers of flavor. We have the classic Beef Lasagna, with fresh ground beef, pillows of ricotta and mozzarella cheese, topped with a blanket of perfectly seasoned marinara sauce. We also have a selection of vegetable lasagnas, to include our newest White Spinach and Ricotta Lasagna, which is layered with bechamel sauce instead of marinara. Sample this lasagna on Sunday, Feb. 23, from 11 to 3 at our North Charles Street store.
One of our favorite creations is the Italian Sausage and Meatball Lasagna. Chunks of deliciously sweet Italian sausage and moist, beefy meatballs, layered with ricotta and mozzarella, then topped with a rustic, chunky tomato sauce. Let your senses bathe in this layered masterpiece. Taste it for yourself on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Roland Avenue store, also between 11 and 3.
We are featuring our delicious lasagnas in Gourmet to Go from Feb. 23 through March 1. Stop in to purchase the chef's daily selection -- traditional beef, three-cheese or spinach and roasted pepper -- at just $7.99 per pound.
The lasagnas from our kitchens are perfect for feeding a crowd. Let our caterers help you select a lasagna to complement your menu so that you can make your own "fashion statement" with Eddie's layers of love.
